GT in schools competition

Hello everyone - the GT site is now up and running and I can now enter teams. I need to know some details of your teams however. We need to have these registered by 19th October 2008.
Names. date of birth, team name, etc. Teams to be between 3 and 6 and have roles like team manager, resource manager, manufacturing engineer, design engineer, graphic designer - see the GT in schools site for info.

http://www.f1inschools.co.uk/page--gt-in-schools.html

You can send me these details via email or drop me a note through the post to 1. Norwich Court, Beverley HU17 8UJ so I can register the team details as required by the GT site. Or simply wait until we are back at school in Sept.

Have a good holiday

motorcycle or rather tricycle ... again

Here is a rather good design, the front suspension is very delicate and can be seen to be working as the model moves.

The model need finishing and we are looking at maybe a card or vacuum formed plastic body. Here we can see that the axles need trimming and, in fact we could do with a switch for the on / off function.

Y8 motorcycle ( QUAD ) model

Nice little mover.
Motor could perhaps be nearer the wheel
and the battery pack is under the seat area
usually placed on top.

Y9 making paper camtoys basic lever models

Camtoys are a popular way of delivering understanding of cams, followers and direction changing mechanisms, but most of all it is FUN. We start by making some basic lever cam card models and progress these to the more complex dog cam toy model ( freely available from me by the way - can be photocopied onto card for students to make ).
If any teacher would like a copy of the basic net for making the mechanism shown here please contact me - Mr. Geekie at the school or simply leave a message and I will post the template to you.

Year 8 Parents Evening 22.5.08

It was good to see everyone last night at the parents evening. I always say that year 8 is the happiest year of their school life. However we must remember that in just over a year we need to think about options for GCSE courses. Time will soon pass.

Year 9 options help for GCSE Graphic Products

Lots of parents and students are now thinking about options for GCSE, or certainly for year 10 and year 11. Graphic Products is an interesting course which allows students to focus on the graphic elements of technology. A visit to the AQA website via my website, ( see the links on www.beverleygrammarschool.co.uk - scroll down to Mr.Geekie's help page ) will give you details of the syllabus and also what is involved in taking the course. If you open the syllabus pdf file you can scroll down to the suggested project ideas ( taken in year 11 ). We focus mainly ( though not exclusively, on exhibition stand design - to exhibit a car. The brief can be varied to suit an individual strength. See my youtube videos for more help - here can be seen outcomes from last years examination coursework. Please, please appreciate that the course requires a good ability for drawing BOTH freehand and on a computer. It also requires dedication, hard work and discipline to achieve good results. If you have any questions please contact me via email, letter, this blog etc. Best wishes - Mr.Geekie

Year 7 Maze project.

We have just recieved our saw blade back which will allow us to cut your wood for the maze games. I will get some wood cut to size and those students who wish to complete their mazes can then do so at lunchtime sessions.

Welcome to the Key Stage 3 blog for technology at BGS

Hello everyone,
I am starting this blog to help keep all informed of technology related events and possibly others linked to BGS. I hope this blog will inform and allow improved communication between all concerned. It is an extra service and is not intended to replace existing methods of communication.
